So there's this guy
His name is Nadjr (bbg), he's got them pink hair and honeycomb eyes.
I put off on working on this page because I shrimply had no idea where to start with Nadjr.
I love him entirely, and it feels a nigh impossible task
(especially with suchhh an organized person like myself in charge)
to be able to make a neat, aesthetic page detailing on every aspect of his character.
It's not as if it's extensive or complex or anything,
but it certainly does feel a little intimidating because he holds such a big part of my utter affection and care.
A character's motivation through-out their journey is one of the most crucial pillars of a generic story.
It took me a while to understand what Nadjr's drive could have been.
He spent the greater half of his childhood years without a single support system.
Thus I created Yuela, a loving god-like older sister figure, so that Nadjr may find purpose in living.
When god tells you that your life is not one birthed to be thrown away but to be lived, maybe you'll finally listen.
But as I developed Yuela the saddening realization came that Yuela could never be Nadjr's all-loving god.
She was meant as a caricature of noblesse oblige, which inherently erases the possibility of sincere love.
Yuela helps Nadjr because she found him pitiful, out of humanity, that isn't the sort of love love everyone's so high on.
The 'saddening realization' is this that,
inevitably Nadjr will one day have to face the fact that he wasn't even loved by Yuela,
and if Yuela didn't love him, no one ever has. And that type of development made me sad,
so I just pulled some other bullshit out my ass. It goes something like
All people around him, without fail, either rejected his presence or directly wished to terminate his existence.
Left without the comforts of society i.e. bonding and empathy,
he could only justify his existence and its relentless continuation on the pretence of the necessity to fulfill selfish wish.
"I want to leave this place and find happiness elsewhere,
whether that pursuit require a lifetime of solitude or of menial effort."
So, since Nadjr had been deprived of any semblance of human connection whatsoever,
he had to find his raison d'etre someplace alien to society,
unlike so many people who would go "My family/friend/lover is why I choose to wake up and face each day".
He gave up on such kinds of goals and instead and realized that happiness lies wherever shitfaced people do not,
so he'll just go there. He'll leave behind his life spent treated as a demon incarnate no matter what and...
that's it. His only idea of being happy was being not here, he doesn't have plans for anything else.
That is, all he can think of is "How can I stop my agony?" but not as far as
"How can I really be happy?". That's not much vivid of a dream,
which is precisely why he never ended up fulfilling his 'being a runaway' fantasies.
But soon enough his academy friends had entered his life
so I'm not sure he would have become a runaway even if an opportunity were to arise. :)
